Relationships of Radiation Dose Indices with Body Size Indices in Adult Body Computed Tomography

چکیده

We investigated the relationships between radiation dose indices and body size in adult computed tomography (CT). A total of 3200 CT scans thoracic, abdominal, abdominopelvic, or thoraco-abdominopelvic regions performed using one four scanners were analyzed. Volume index (CTDIvol) length product (DLP) compared with various derived from images (water-equivalent diameter, WED; effective ED) physical measurements (weight, weight/height, mass index, surface area). CTDIvol showed excellent positive linear correlations WED ED. also high measurement-based indices, whereas correlation coefficients lower than for Among weight/height strongest correlations, followed by weight. Compared to CTDIvol, DLP tended be WED, ED, higher The standard values at 60 kg increase ratios increasing weight, estimated regression equations, differed among scanners. Radiation closely correlated such as scanners, indicating significance management considering size.

Relationship between normal heart size and body indices in Korean.

We provided a curve-fit equation to predict the normal heart weight (g) in Koreans by examining 422 autopsies (215 males and 207 females, from newborn to age 77 yr) who were relatively in good general condition. Heart weight was well correlated with body surface area (m2), body weight (kg), and body height (cm) but poorly with age in both sex. Heart weight progressively increased from birth to ...

Prevalence of Protective Shielding Utilization for Radiation Dose Reduction in Adult Patients Undergoing Body Scanning Using Computed Tomography.

PURPOSE Ionizing radiation is implicated in nearly 2% of malignancies in the United States; radiation shields prevent unnecessary radiation exposure during medical imaging. Contemporary radiation shield utilization for adult patients in the United States is poorly defined. Therefore, we evaluated the prevalence of protective shielding utilization in adult patients undergoing CT scans in United ...

Optimization of Radiation Dose in Cranial Computed Tomography among Adults: Assessment of Radiation Dose against Image Quality

Introduction: The rapid use of computed tomography (CT) scan is of great concern, due to increase in patients’ dose. Optimization of CT protocol is a vital issue in dose reduction. This study aimed to optimize radiation dose in cranial CT and assess modifications in image quality under radiation dose reduction. Material and Methods: A poly(me...
